Author: Fran Briggs Daily goals. Do you even have them? The number one reason why a goal is not attained is because a well-executed plan does not exist. Let me give you and example. Earlier in the year I took on a charismatic client who was full of zest and gusto. I listened with great interest as he boldly announced how much money he was going to earn with his business this year. Easily absorbed was his positive energy. Then, I asked him how much product he had forecasted to sell for the quarter, the month the week and each day. He told me he wasn't sure. Then I asked him about the specific activity he was going to engage in for the week that would help him meet his annual goal. He said he had no plan.
The key to meeting your annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly goal is creating and executing a plan, daily. It is not difficult to hit your targets when you develop a strategic plan that outlines specific daily actions that will lead you to, and hopefully well beyond, your goal.
Exactly one year ago, another client announced her plan to write and publish her book in one year. Together we made a simple but powerful plan. She would write two pages a day and save a minimum of $2.00 a day for publishing costs. She would take the weekends and holidays off. On January 18, 2006, less than one year later, she called and told me she had not only finished her book, but that "the first 300 copies came off the press this afternoon."
See the difference? The second client simply wrote down a specific goal that included a daily plan of action. She was totally committed to (part of her plan was to "skip Starbucks 3 days a week" and brew her own). She knew in advance that by June, 2005 she would complete at least 180 pages of her 250 page book and, have at least 50% of the financing for publication by that date. My client hit her targets 45 days ahead of schedule and achieved more than she ever imagined.
Do you have an annual goal? Separate the parts from the "whole." Identify your quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily goals. Write down exactly what you need to do to experience success each day. Each hour, get in the habit of asking, "What's important now?" Then, goal to it!
